In Nigeria, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has confirmed the directive for the direct termination of the tendering process for the appointment of pre-shipment inspection (PSI) and monitoring agents for oil and gas by the Federal Government.
According to the Minister’s media aide, Mashall Gundu, in a statement, the verdict was compelled by the receipt of several complaints as well as a petition concerning suspected anomalies in the process.
"The sheer volume of complaints and the wide range of sources they emanated from had raised a sufficient level of concern around the process to warrant a full cancellation rather than a suspension. This administration stands for transparency and accountability and it is therefore important that all procurement and tendering exercises must be undertaken in accordance with best practices”, the Finance Minister told Daily Trust.
President Muhammadu Buhari had in June, instructed the finance ministry led by the then permanent secretary, Anastasia Nwaobia, to start the process of appointing pre-shipment inspection and monitoring agents.
