(Ecofin Agency) - Towards boosting its share of the growing global market, Bonny Gas Transport (BGT) has commissioned four new vessels.According to the company, the four dual fuel diesel electric (DFDE) LNG carriers will be deployed to Nigeria LNG (NLNG) before the end of December.
NLNG, is the operator of the Bonny Island plant. In 2013, it placed an order for six vessels worth over $1.2 billion from Samsung Heavy Industries and Hyundai Heavy Industries. Four has been commissioned and the remaining two will be commissioned and delivered next year.
The LNG Bonny II and LNG Lagos II which was constructed by HHI are 299 meters long and they have a capacity of 177,000 cbm while the LNG Finima II and LNG Port-Harcourt II constructed by SHI have a capacity of 175,000 cbm and are 293 meters long and 48 meters wide.
“NLNG is currently planning for additional trains that will increase its production capacity by 40 percent to some 30 million tonnes annually. Our shipping capacity must therefore also grow to meet the demands of this expansion”, Babs Omotowa (photo), the MD and CEO of NLNG said.
The Bonny Island facility presently has six operational trains with an overall capacity of 22 Million Tonnes Per Annum (mtpa) of LNG, Naira Metrics reports.
The NLNG is a joint venture cooperation between NNPC, Shell, Total and Eni with 49%, 25.6%, 15%, and 10.4% respectively.
