Ingenu and Koncar INEM have delivered an IoT connectivity solution to the Shell Nigeria pipeline facility to provide Digital Oilfield (DOF) capabilities, thereby saving the company over $1m in infrastructure investment.
The Digital Oilfield solution grants pipeline surveillance and wellhead monitoring capabilities to distant infrastructure in the Niger Delta.
DOF solution includes IT automation and instrumentation technologies to offer a support platform to use distant field data while modifying operational efficiencies. The integrated technology platform provides faster studies and more efficient data management to grant insight into field processes, bringing about safe and efficient oilfield operation.
The million dollar savings was from leveraging Ingenu’s RPMA connectivity platform instead of other solutions, as it is infrastructure-light. Koncar is capable of providing Shell Nigeria with field data about pipeline pressure, temperature, and flow via remote terminal units and wireless pressure as well as temperature transmitters that were installed in flow stations, manifolds, and wellheads.
“Upland evaluated several communication technologies to present Shell Nigeria with a solution to replace its manual oilfield data collection processes. The key criteria for selecting a solution were the technology's ability to cover difficult terrain, power performance, and long-range transmission as well as network scalability, two-way communications, and secure data transmission. Ingenu's RPMA offered all of these attributes and eclipsed the competition with its connectivity, network capacity, and exceptional value,” Bola Awobamise, CEO of Upland Consulting Nigeria Ltd a supporter of the DOF solution told Energy Business Review.
