(Ecofin Agency) - In South Africa, dispute over poultry import with the U.S has finally come to an end. Indeed, the rainbow nation which was threatened by the U.S of exit from African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) just received the first shipment from USA. The arrival of this shipment before the deadline set by Washington – March, 15, 2016 – is the end note of months of tensions between both countries.
American ambassador to South Africa, Michael Froman, expressed his content and said he would ask that the White House lift threat of suspension from AGOA. Meanwhile, South Africa’s Minister of Trade, Rob Davies thanked the South African poultry industry as well as other sectors which had to make concessions to reach this end.
Let us recall that South Africa has blocked U.S poultry import since 2000, as it adopted anti-dumping law.
