(Ecofin Agency) - CEPSA and partner ERHC Energy’s search for oil and gas at the Tarach-1 well in Kenya’s Block 11A was unsuccessful and works are underway to plug and abandon the well, Oil news Kenya revealed.
The drilling which began on April 14, 2016 was expected to drill from a 20” surface casing through intermediate casings down to 2,442 meters and set a seven-inch liner down to a total depth of 3,000 meters using the SMP 106 rig.
The Tarach-1 prospect’s oil prospective unrisked resources were estimated at 66 million bbls but it is unsure if any hydrocarbons were encountered during the drilling.
As a matter of fact, it is uncertain if the second exploration well, the Egole-1 which has mean prospective resources of 101 million BO will carry on.
The Egole-1 well had before now, been scheduled to come up following the successful drilling of the Tarach-1 well.
