Uganda expects to harvest 558,000 metric tons of coffee, equivalent to 9.3 million 60-kg bags, during the 2025/2026 season, Gerald Kyalo, Commissioner of the Coffee Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, told Reuters on Thursday.
The forecast represents a 14.8% rise, or 72,000 tons more than last season’s 486,000 tons. The upbeat projection reflects the entry of newly matured coffee plantations into production.
“The major reason is increased planting. Many farmers have planted coffee which we anticipate will come into production this year and will inevitably push up exports as well,” Kyalo said.
Since Uganda exports nearly 95% of its coffee, the larger 2025/2026 crop will further raise export volumes. Coffee export revenues for the 2024/2025 fiscal year doubled to a record $2.2 billion.
