As digital transformation accelerates across Africa, institutions increasingly seek cooperation to ensure a smooth transition. In Namibia, two national bodies have committed to that path.
Namibia’s Communications Regulatory Authority (CRAN) and the University of Namibia (UNAM) have formalized a partnership designed to strengthen “cooperation in information and communication technologies (ICT), cybersecurity, research and capacity-building.”
The memorandum of understanding signed earlier this week reflects a shared commitment to support the country’s technological development and prepare future generations for digital-era challenges.
CRAN stated on social network X that “through this MoU, both institutions reaffirm their commitment to enhancing academic excellence, fostering technological advancement, and empowering Namibia’s digital future.”

The initiative aligns with Namibia’s national digital-transformation strategy, which focuses on developing local talent, promoting innovation and strengthening the resilience of digital infrastructure. By combining regulation, research and training, the country aims to accelerate its transition toward an inclusive digital economy.
CRAN, as the regulator of telecommunications, Internet and broadcasting services, will contribute operational and regulatory expertise. UNAM will provide academic resources and research capabilities. The collaboration will also support the creation of specialized training courses, applied-research programmes and awareness initiatives, particularly in cybersecurity—a field that has become critical amid rising digital threats.
