Tunisia and Algeria create a digital platform to connect universities and labs for AI research collaboration
The platform aims to accelerate knowledge production and support applied research in education, healthcare, and industry
Initiative builds on previous cross-border university cooperation to foster integration in higher education and research
Tunisia and Algeria launched a digital platform to accelerate innovation in artificial intelligence (AI), Moez Chafra, president of the University of Tunis El Manar, announced at the second International Forum on Emerging and Intelligent Information Technologies.
The platform connects universities, research labs, and institutions in both countries through shared digital tools. It facilitates data exchange, dissemination of scientific work, and networking of expertise, addressing the fragmentation of traditional research approaches.
The initiative aims to structure collaboration among researchers and speed up knowledge production in strategic technology areas. It builds on discussions from the 7th Forum of Algeria-Tunisia Border Universities in Souk Ahras in December 2025, where participating universities committed to creating a “successful integration model” and strengthening unity in higher education and scientific research.
Authorities highlight that AI will serve as a driver of innovation in critical sectors, including education, healthcare, and industry. By improving access to resources and promoting joint projects, the platform intends to generate solutions tailored to local challenges.
The platform is expected to transform research practices in the Maghreb by fostering collaboration, accelerating output, and focusing on applied results. Officials emphasize that the initiative will make AI research more coordinated, practical, and results-driven, enhancing the region’s technological competitiveness.
