Daystar Power announced on Friday, April 24, that it signed a contract with Olam Agri Ghana to construct a 1.9 MWp rooftop photovoltaic plant. The project will supply electricity to an agro-industrial facility located in Kpong, within the Tema industrial corridor. The system will connect to the national grid and will meet the plant’s operational energy needs.
Daystar will handle system design, construction, and integration into existing infrastructure. The company will also oversee long-term operations of the installation. However, Daystar did not disclose the project’s cost, contract structure, or agreement duration. The company indicated that the system will reduce the site’s reliance on grid electricity and diesel generators.
The project forms part of a broader partnership between Daystar and the Olam Group in West Africa. It marks the third such installation for an Olam entity in Ghana, following projects for Olam Biscuit and Olam Culinary.
In Nigeria, Daystar has already delivered multiple projects for the group. These installations bring the total number of equipped Olam sites in the region to seven, while additional projects remain under development.
Daystar, a Shell subsidiary focused on industrial solar solutions, continues to scale its regional footprint. In Nigeria, the company recently increased its installed capacity to 14.7 MW in the Agbara industrial zone, where it supplies power to eight companies, according to an early April LinkedIn publication.
The company is also developing hybrid systems that integrate energy storage. This approach addresses persistent grid constraints and rising energy costs for industrial users across the region.
