Tunisia welcomed more than 10.033 million tourists between January 1 and November 20, 2025, a 10.3% increase compared with the same period last year, according to figures cited by local media from the Ministry of Tourism. The rise was powered by both long-standing and newer source markets. The United Kingdom posted a 40.1% jump, with 415,000 visitors, while France sent 1.07 million travelers, up 6.4%. Arrivals from Italy and Canada also climbed, by 8.6% and 11% respectively.
The Chinese market, which the government has been trying to cultivate, grew by 18.6%, totaling 24,268 visitors. Tourism revenues reached nearly 7 billion Tunisian dinars—about $2.382 billion—over the first nine months of the year, an 8.3% increase.
This momentum brings the country closer to its target of 11 million visitors in 2025, a milestone that could position Tunisia among Africa’s three largest tourism destinations alongside Morocco and Egypt. With 10.2 million visitors in 2024, Tunisia was already competing with South Africa for the third spot, as both countries approach the 11-million mark this year.
Tourism remains a strategic pillar of Tunisia’s economy. According to the World Bank, the sector grew 28.1% in 2023, reaching 6.9 billion dinars and contributing 4.4% of GDP, compared with 3.8% in 2022. Last year, its contribution to GDP nearly returned to its pre-pandemic level of 4.6%.
