Abidjan Airport Traffic Hits 2.55 Million in 2025, Just Below Expectations

  • Passenger traffic reached 2.55 million in 2025, up slightly year-on-year
  • Air freight rose 7% to 34,844 tons
  • Growth came in below earlier projections of 2.57 million passengers

Last year, 2,551,915 travelers passed through Abidjan’s Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport. Although this figure is higher than the 2,535,451 recorded in 2024, it falls just short of earlier projections of 2.57 million passengers.

The figures were disclosed on April 9, 2026, at the opening of a national workshop on air transport competitiveness, according to remarks attributed to Dioman Coné, chief of staff to the minister of transport and maritime affairs.

Domestic traffic accounted for around 100,000 passengers over the year, supported by 33,228 aircraft movements. Air freight also showed stronger momentum, rising 7% year-on-year to reach 34,844 tons.

At this stage, authorities have not released a detailed breakdown of passenger flows. In 2024, however, the ECOWAS region was the main source of traffic, ahead of France. The national carrier, Air Côte d’Ivoire, continues to play a central role, accounting for about 36% of total traffic at the airport.

The platform is currently connected to 41 international destinations, including Brussels, Dubai, and Istanbul. Following the recent national workshop, authorities are now working on a roadmap to position Abidjan as a leading air transport hub in West Africa.

Key challenges identified include tax policies, procedural efficiency, smoother airport operations, and the overall competitiveness of the platform.
