Côte d’Ivoire Sets May Fuel Prices, Slightly Higher

  • Côte d'Ivoire raises gasoline price to 875 CFA francs/liter
  • Kerosene price increased to 745 CFA francs per liter
  • Global oil surge, subsidies and rising domestic output shape outlook

Côte d'Ivoire has raised the retail price of unleaded gasoline to 875 CFA francs ($1.56) per liter from 820 CFA francs ($1.46).

In a statement on Thursday, April, 30, the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy set maximum retail prices for petroleum products for May 1-30. Kerosene prices also increased to 745 CFA francs per liter from 705 CFA francs.

The increases reflect pressure in international markets. Crude prices have risen in recent months amid geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East. By late April 2026, Brent crude was trading above $100 a barrel, up from the start of the year, increasing import costs for countries such as Côte d'Ivoire, which are vulnerable to external price swings.

For several years, authorities have implemented measures to cushion the impact of such fluctuations on household purchasing power, including fuel subsidies and periodic price caps on staple goods such as oil, sugar, rice and meat.

Domestic production is also rising. According to official data, Côte d'Ivoire produced 16.1 million barrels of crude oil in 2024, or about 44,000 barrels per day, up roughly 50% from 2023. The increase is partly driven by the development of the Baleine field, which could strengthen the role of oil in the economy over time and help ease energy pressures.
