Madagascar plans to train 40,000 people in digital skills by 2028, according to Marie Marcelline Rasoloarisoa, Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training. Rasoloarisoa disclosed the target last week during the adoption ceremony of her sector's national digitalization strategy, a plan supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Authorities aim to train 6,000 individuals annually over the next three years. The strategy document outlines 22 priority projects. These projects range from creating training frameworks to establishing digital infrastructure and a centralized platform. The plan also includes introducing new ICT-related modules, deploying an IT system for national exam management, and developing a free, open-access e-learning platform.
"Digitalization is no longer an option; it is a necessity. It abolishes distances, harmonizes levels, and facilitates access to information. Thanks to it, every young person can orient themselves and train without traveling, without excessive costs," Minister Rasoloarisoa stated.
This initiative aligns with the Strategic Digital Plan (PSN 2023-2028), launched by the Ministry of Digital Development, Digital Transformation, Posts, and Telecommunications. It seeks to address a growing deficit in information and communication technology (ICT) skills.
Achieving these objectives could provide Madagascar with a talent pool capable of supporting its digital transformation. It could also reduce reliance on foreign expertise and attract more investment into the sector. This endeavor could position Madagascar as a future digital hub in East Africa.
