The African Union and the United Kingdom agreed to organize a high-level strategic meeting in London in early 2026. The pan-African organization announced the decision following talks held on Monday, February 2, 2026.
African Union Commission President Mahamoud Ali Youssouf met British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper during the meeting. The two officials discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in priority areas, including health, education and crisis management.
In addition, both sides addressed the situation in Sudan and the Sahel. They jointly called for a ceasefire as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate in both regions.
