  • Nigeria, Colombia sign MoU for regular political consultations

  • Deal includes visa facilitation for Colombian diplomats in Nigeria

  • Both nations seek stronger economic cooperation, trade opportunities

Nigeria and Colombia have signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultations, Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima announced in a statement on Monday, September 1, 2025.

The agreement establishes a framework for regular political dialogue and facilitates visa issuance for Colombian diplomats traveling to Nigeria.

Beyond political cooperation, both nations aim to strengthen their economic ties. Speaking at the Nigeria-Colombia Investment Forum, Vice President Shettima urged both countries to leverage their extensive potential for concrete and sustainable economic gains.

The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations with limited cooperation to date. Colombia is also pursuing a strategy to expand its partnerships in Africa. In April 2023, the South American country and Kenya pledged to increase cooperation in the coffee sector. More recently, on August 27, Bogotá expressed its desire to intensify commercial cooperation with Ethiopia.
