Côte d’Ivoire to receive €157.9 million Global Fund support
Funds target HIV, tuberculosis, malaria programs for 2027–2029
Country reports sharp declines in HIV infections, AIDS deaths
Côte d’Ivoire will receive 157.9 million euros ($186.4 million) from the Global Fund for 2027–2029 to strengthen efforts against HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, while supporting its health system, a senior official said.
Danielle Adjafi, president of the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) for Côte d’Ivoire, announced the funding at a press briefing on Tuesday, April 14.
The funding is part of the Global Fund’s eighth grant cycle (GC8) and reflects the ongoing partnership between the country and the institution.
Of the total, 53 million euros will go to HIV programmes, 10.8 million euros to tuberculosis and 94.1 million euros to malaria. Some of the funding will also support the health system, although the final allocation has yet to be agreed.
Sustained progress under a long-term partnership
The funding follows encouraging results. According to the Global Fund, Côte d’Ivoire has made significant progress over the past two decades. AIDS-related deaths have fallen by 83% since 2002, while new HIV infections have dropped by nearly 90% over the same period. Tuberculosis cases have also declined by around 40%.
In Côte d’Ivoire, where malaria remains widespread, prevention and treatment efforts have intensified. The Global Fund attributes this to the distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets and expanded awareness campaigns.
Cooperation between Abidjan and the Global Fund remains a key driver in improving access to care and strengthening health system capacity. In March 2024, six new grants worth a total of 230 million euros were signed with the Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal Health Coverage for the 2024–2026 period.
