  • Agreements include cooperation on digital identity and public infrastructure

  • Move builds on decades of diplomatic ties and growing regional partnerships

Mozambique and Ethiopia have signed several memorandums of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, according to a statement released on April 27.

The agreements span a range of strategic sectors, including military training, urban development and housing, health care, civil aviation, and tourism. They also cover digital transformation, with a focus on developing digital identity systems and public digital infrastructure.

This visit reflects Ethiopia’s continued commitment to building strong African partnerships focused on concrete results that can improve living conditions in both countries, according to the Ethiopian News Agency.

The two countries share nearly 50 years of diplomatic relations, and the newly signed agreements are expected to deepen that cooperation.

Mozambique has stepped up its regional partnerships in recent years. In May 2025, it signed a memorandum of understanding with Angola focused on social policy and gender equality. In August, Mozambique and Rwanda reached agreements on security and investment aimed at strengthening stability and economic cooperation.
