(Ecofin Agency) - Equatorial Guinea signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese firm China Unicom and the Cameroon public telecommunication service provider, Camtel, in charge of the undersea cables construction project which will link Cameroon to Brazil, according to an official announcement.
With this memorandum, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea shows his will to join the adventure which will to the construction of Africa’s first undersea fiber optic cable extending to South America.
Distant of 6000km, this cable provided by the French firm Nexans, will start from Fortazela, in Brazil and end at Kribi, a seaside town of South Cameroon.
At Fortazela, the ending point of the infrastructure will be built by Telefonica, a Spanish firm, while at Kribi, it will be done by the Chinese industry Huawei.
