(Ecofin Agency) - Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture (Mofa) recently mentioned a policy which aims to decrease poultry imports. The policy, according to authorities, should improve local production.

Statistics from the ministry shows that local supply meets only 42% of national demand, thus letting imports from Europe and America fill deficit. During a recent tour of the Tema harbour, Mofa’s deputy minister, Dr Hannah Bissiw, confirmed government’s commitment to restructure the agricultural sector.

“The policy is part of measures that we are putting in place to make sure that we have a future where we do not import unemployment and export employment but we have a future where employment is created in our country by reviving the poultry industry,” she told Ghanaweb.
