Record Resources has appointed Alain Mizelle as president and chief operating officer. The decision comes as the company, in partnership with ReconAfrica, finalized a production sharing agreement with the Gabonese government and the Gabon Oil Company (GOC) in early September.
Mizelle has nearly 30 years of experience in African oil and gas exploration and production. A former executive at Energy Africa, he worked on major projects like Nkossa and Moho-Bilondo in the Republic of the Congo and oversaw the development of more than 20 blocks in Gabon.
He was also involved in the discovery of the Ceiba-Okoume complex in Equatorial Guinea, which holds an estimated 2 billion barrels, as well as the development of the M’Boundi field in the Republic of the Congo. Mizelle co-founded FirstAfrica Oil, a company active in Gabon in the 2000s, and led negotiations for regionally significant blocks like MKB (Mengo-Kundji-Bindi).
The Ngulu offshore block, formerly known as C-7, is located in shallow waters off the coast of Gabon and covers 1,214 square kilometers. It includes the Loba field, discovered in 1976, which has a production potential of approximately 20,000 barrels per day, in addition to around 30 exploratory prospects.
The consortium is structured with ReconAfrica as the operator (55%), followed by Record Resources (20%), Gabon Oil Company (15%), and the Gabonese government (10%). ReconAfrica has already raised $10 million to fund the first phase of the project, which includes geological studies, the reinterpretation of seismic data, and the drilling of one well.
