The Togolese government has announced plans to establish the first campus of the 42 network in West Africa, to be located in Lomé, with the aim of strengthening digital skills development.
The project is supported by several partners, including Axian Group through its subsidiary Yas Togo, as well as European actors, notably France and the European Union.
Led by the Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation, the initiative forms part of the country’s strategy to position itself as a regional hub for technology skills.
The future campus will offer training in programming, data, and artificial intelligence, based on a hands-on learning model.
“This project reflects our ambition to make digital technology a driver of economic and social transformation, by offering Togolese youth concrete opportunities for the future,” said Cina Lawson, Minister of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation.
Unlike traditional academic systems, the 42 network uses a model without teachers or formal lectures. Students progress through practical projects and peer-to-peer collaboration, with open access that does not require formal academic qualifications.
The approach aims to identify and train job-ready talent aligned with market needs. Beyond Togo, 42 campuses already operate in countries such as Morocco, Madagascar, and Angola.
The project is part of the “Togo Digital 2025” strategy, which has a budget of between $0.8 billion and $1 billion. Around 10% of this funding is allocated to digital tools, talent development, and ecosystem support, under which this campus falls. No timeline for the campus opening or specific project budget has been disclosed.
