(Ecofin Agency) - Engen Petroleum, a South African oil and gas company plans to add two new service stations to its retail network in the Democratic republic of Congo as well as construct an Engen Truck Stop long haul site.
The GM of Engen’s International Business Division, Drikus Kotze, stated that the company has just received approval for construction of service stations on the Tourisme in Kinshasa, which it plans to open in January 2016.
The Tourisme site is to offer fuel and lubricants along with an Engen Quick shop convenience store supplying convenience products and general merchandise.
Meanwhile, Oasis, another site located in Kinshasa which was half built by the previous owner, is currently undergoing completion by Engen and it is expected to be open for business by December.
According to Kotze, Engen has been in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2007 and business has been developing gradually.
“We’ve been fairly aggressive in our retail roll-out over the past three years, but getting good sites and finalizing the necessary approvals isn’t always that straight-forward, given the stringent environmental and regulatory issues that we subscribe to,” Kotze told Petroleum Africa.
