(Ecofin Agency) - In Ilorin, following the discovery of two filling stations hoarding petrol on Sunday, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Kwara State distributed the product to motorists and motorcyclists on queues for free.
According to Vanguard, the filling stations include Alkad and Sons Nigeria Limited, located at Olorunsogo in Ilorin and Nasmut Nigeria Limited located at Otte in Asa Local Government Area of the state were pounced on by the surveillance team of the department, after a warning by residents.
Alkad and Sons Limited was said to have hoarded a total of 2,300 litres of fuel while the latter was caught hoarding a huge undisclosed amount of the product, thereby telling buyers that they had depleted the commodity.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, had on November 17, 2015 told the Department of Petroleum Resources to close all fuel stations caught hoarding petroleum products and distribute the petroleum for free to the public.
The DPR afterwards,warned filling stations in Ilorinbefore now to abstain from hoarding the commodity and selling to citizens, to relieve the transportation sufferings. Ilorin for the past two weeks has been struggling with a severe shortage of fuel causing long queues at few stations distributing the products, especially NNPC.
