Private equity fundraising in Africa culminated to about $905 million in February 2019. French fund manager Amethis Finance was the leader with €305 million ($347 million) for the first closing of its Amethis Fund II.
The other major fundraisings were announced by Investisseurs & Partenaires ($85.3 million), Partech ($142 million), SunFund ($87 million), as well as South African Newton Partners and Lion Pride ($35.8 million). Some of these funds are closed while the others are partially closing.
These figures bode well for private equity fundraising in Africa in 2019. Looking at the numerous financing challenges experienced by the region, some studies indicate that the sector could become one of the best means to provide additional financial resources.
