Dubai Ports World will build a logistic free zone in Senegal

Wednesday, 04 November 2015 12:30

The Emirati port operator Dubai Ports World (DP World) announced, in a communiqué published on 24 October having signed an agreement with the Senegalese government for the construction and development of a logistic free zone in the outskirts of the capital, Dakar.

This zone will be built next to the new Blaise-Diagne International airport, not far from the container terminal of the Dakar Port managed by DP World, the same source added, without revealing the cost of the investments.

The new logistic platform will thus be the complimentary of this port presented as the biggest in terms of capacity, in West Africa since the construction of a second container terminal in 2011.

The agreement on the logistic zone was signed in Dakar by Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, president of DP World, and the Senegalese minister of Foreign Affairs, Mankeur Ndiaye.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem declared, on this occasion, that this project followed the goal of the United Arab Emirates to support growth and development in partner countries such as Senegal. “The project is part of our commitment to help this partner countries to equip themselves with the necessary infrastructure for trade and economic development, particularly in the port sector, where DP World is a world leader with 65 terminals currently managed throughout the world”, he said.
