From January 1, 2007 to June 30, 2015, a total of $6.1 billion has been injected in West Africa by private equity funds, a report from African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association/AVCA reveals.

Overall, 311 transactions were conducted over the reviewed period, the same source stated. However, the distribution of these transactions by country shows strong disparities. In fact, 65% of the volume of these transactions and 93% of their total value go to Nigeria and Ghana.

Also, AVCA highlights that West Africa’s share in the total number of Private Equity transactions compared to Africa’s has increased from 25% in 2007-2010 to 28% in 2011-2015 (June 30). Value-wise, the region’s share surged to 25% between 2011 and June 30, 2015, from 9% in 2007-2010.

75 exits are attributed to West Africa between January 1, 2007 to June 30, 2015. Sales to trade buyers constitute a large proportion of these exits, especially is the finance and consumption sectors.
