Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe-BAZ French Company Eutelsat Communications, major satellites operator worldwide, signed an agreement.
The agreement aims to reinforce digital transition of Zimbabwe’s broadcasting network which was launched in 2011. The country thus plans to switch to digital which is now trending in Africa. Eutelsat is to offer 12 free channels on the 48 Digital terrestrial Television transmitters of the national network so that Zimbabwe’s viewers benefit from a better image quality and enjoy a broader panel of TV programs.
Tests have already begun and Eutelsat’s offer will be launched during 2016 Q1. BAZ’s head, Obert Muganyura, spoke about transforming Zimbabwe into a provider of digital broadcasting services. He adds that: “With this partnership with Eutelsat and other associates on this project, the set is laid for Zimbabwe to speed up the transition from analogic to digital TV and provide a better service to viewers nationwide.”
For Eutelsat, “this agreement is a first step towards fulfilling its commitment to digitalize Zimbabwe”.
