American hotel group Marriott International, announced in a statement published on February 8, 2019, that it would launch operations in Liberia, Morocco and Ghana.
In Liberia, Marriott will launch its operations with the Four Points by Sheraton Monrovia, set to be opened in 2020. “The hotel will consist of 111 stylishly appointed guestrooms and four food and beverage outlets, including a rooftop bar and lounge and speciality restaurant”, the group revealed in the statement.
The Four Points by Sheraton Monrovia will be located in Monrovia’s central business district near key government buildings, ministries, diplomatic premises and the University of Liberia.
The American group also announced the opening of Residence Inn by Marriott Accra Kotoka Airport for 2023 in the residential neighborhood of Accra airport. This 12-storey building will be located 1.5-km from Kotoka international airport.
Marriot International will increase its portfolio of luxury brands with the launch, in 2024, of St. Regis Marrakech Resort. This hotel composed of 80 rooms and luxury villa will be built near Assoufid Golf Resort, which positioned itself as one of the best golf courses in Africa.
“New and established markets across North and West Africa continue to present us with immense opportunities to further enhance and diversify our portfolio in the continent”, said Jérôme Briet, chief development officer for the Middle East and African region at Marriott International, in the statement.
“The new deal signings further strengthen our robust development pipeline, which is a result of our long-established presence in Africa and the trust owners have in Marriott International and our compelling portfolio of diverse brands”, he added.
In October 2018, Marriott International announced that by 2023, it would increase the portfolio of its hotels in Africa by 50% to 200 hotels and 38,000 rooms.
