Telecom group Econet Wireless Zimbabwe launched July 18 via its subsidiary Cassava Fintech, an innovative digital services supplier, a new car insurance product called “EcoSure Moovah”.
The service is targeting the nearly one million uninsured vehicles in the country. In addition to the short-term (4-month) auto insurance, it also offers perks including liters of fuel, $2,000 accident cover and $500 funeral cover.
“About 400,000 vehicles are insured and have got Zinara (Zimbabwe National Road Administration) licence discs, that is too low a number. But, most importantly, it says we have actually got more vehicles on the roads that are not insured than those that are insured,” said Givemore Jojo, Cassava Fintech chief commercial officer.
According to CEO Chibi Eddie, the new insurance product aligns with the EcoSure Funeral Cover service previously launched, which to date covers more than 2 million Zimbabweans.
