Former Malagasy president Marc Ravalomanana is trying to stage his comeback as first citizen of the state. He, who was ousted by a coup in 2009, is currently involved in the campaign for the municipal election which will take place by end July since his spouse Lalao Ravalomanana is bidding for the seat of mayor of the capital city.
At the same time Mr Ravalomanana is trying to make his return on the economic scene with his bid for the leadership of Fivmpama, a consortium of Malagasy entrepreneurs. He however missed the top seat by a hair’s breath. He indeed got the 16th spot with only 15 seats to fill.
Fivmpama brings together 300 companies, it is a network in full expansion over the whole country, and therefore an interesting tool for someone who wants to take part in the presidential election in three years. A seat on the board of the consortium would have also allowed him to have more influence on the decision to reopen his food industry-related company Tiko, which has been closed since 2009.
