Ethiopian Airlines aims to contribute to development of intra-African trade

Wednesday, 24 October 2018 18:32

Ethiopian Airlines, the renowned African company, aims to become the main airlines company at the service of intra-African trade and investments, its CEO Tewolde Gebremariam (photo) said during the World Investment Forum being held in Geneva, Switzerland.

"Developing trade and investments in Africa requires important transport medium and we, at Ethiopian Airlines, are working to answer this need by allowing citizens of the region to travel easily without having to make stopovers in non-African countries", Tewolde Gebremariam said.

With Asky Airlines, the company in which Ethiopian Airlines is the leading shareholder, a hub connecting WAEMU countries and other African countries has been created.

Mr. Gebremariam also indicated that hubs would be developed in Mozambique, Zambia, Chad, and Malawi.

Backed by a strong political will from Ethiopia’s government, Ethiopian Airlines is now the most dynamic airlines company in Africa. Based in Addis Ababa, it has become the preferred airlines company of Subsaharan operators that travel to Asia and the Middle East to buy manufactured products or equipment.
