American capital investment Berkshire Partners has bought part of London group Permira Holdings’ shares in Teraco Data Environments, the largest data centre in Africa, Bloomberg reported on January 24, 2019.
With this acquisition whose amount has not been disclosed, Berkshire Partners becomes the main shareholder of the South African firm that operates data centres in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
“Berkshire Partners is a committed long-term partner that will assist us with future growth plans and additional investment”, said Jan Hnizdo (photo), Teraco’s managing director.
He further added that Teraco was planning to double its installed capacity to 60 megawatts in the coming four to five years.
Teraco Data Environments offers its services to reputed groups such as Amazon Web Services and China Telecom Global.
