(Ecofin Agency) - Chinese group Dongfeng Yangtse will build in Tangiers, Morocco, a car assembly unit (buses and latest generation electric cars). The project was estimated to cost more than a million dirham ($101.4 million).
The fim’s CEO, Wu Tian Cai, told this to the local press on July 21, 2016.
The plant whose construction is to start soon, should be operational in 2017. With a production target of 200-300 electric buses per year, at full throttle, the plant should generate 2,000 jobs.
According to Wu Tian Cai, Tangiers was chosen for its strategic position which provides access both to European markets and African markets. Thus, Dongfend Yangtse aims through this project to initially meet the demands of the local market and later conquer the whole African market.
