Chad: IFC provides funding of €1.23 million for new Ndjamena hospital

Thursday, 30 July 2015 10:07

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, announced in a communiqué that it has granted financing to help expand a leading private hospital in Ndjamena.

This investment of €1.23 million, a first of its kind, will be used to construct and equip a new hospital with a 56-bed capacity in Ndjamena, by the Clinic La Providence, currently renting a building with a capacity of 26 beds.

The new clinic will offer health care services of quality in a country where medical expenses are estimated at 4.6% of GDP. In Chad, the increasing demand for healthcare services is explained by rising salaries, a growing population and the scarcity of adequate medical facilities.

According to Dr Ngombaye Djaibe, the founder of the clinic, “The new hospital will allow us to broaden our health care services to new specialist areas such as cardiology, respiratory medicine, reanimation, orthopaedics, surgery and oncology. Considering the increasing demand, these specialist services will reduce the need for the evacuation of Chadian patients due to the lack of specialised health services.”
