(Ecofin Agency) - In South Africa, following the establishment of a coolant manufacturing plant in July this year in Woodmead, Cummins Filtration has appointed Hytec Fluid Technology (HFT) a hydraulic fluid specialist as its dealer for the Fleetguard range of engine protection products in Southern Africa.
This facility is to serve as a new regional distribution centre and produce Fleetguard fuel, air filters and the Fleetguard organic acid technology (OAT) engine coolant, aimed at reducing the environmental impact derived from the disposing of traditional coolants.
According to Cummins, the OAT is an economical coolant. Indeed, compared to other coolants that need to be drained every 4,000 to 6,000 hours, it has a lifespan of up to 5 years in automotive and 6 year in heavy-duty.
Both companies, however, cites African expansion as one of the reasons behind the collaboration. “Cummins Filtration’s manufacturing investment in South Africa, along with its technical skills and stockholding, and coupled with HFT’s African experience and tailored hydraulic products, means our collaboration is mutually beneficial,” Sandor Bottyan HFT’s GM told Engineering News.
He added that its distribution network which is present in many countries north of South Africa’s borders complements Cummins Filtration's African goals.
“Our overlapping company cultures played a pivotal role in this collaboration, as Cummins values integrity and investment in the local community”, Cummins Filtration Africa components director Feroze Chowdary said as he highlights the comparisons between the two companies impelling them to collaborate.
This collaboration allows HFT market and distribute the total Fleetguard range, which comprises of products like the NanoNet, a synthetic fuel filter media aimed at extending the life of engines.
