(Ecofin Agency) - Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC)’s head on Thursday announced plans to construct a mega processing plant soon for natural gas at Likongo in Lindi Region, for the purpose of export.

The Managing Director of the corporation, Dr. James Mataragio (photo), revealed that TPDC has before now performed a feasibility study for the project and it would soon commence the laying of pipeline in the city that would supply the energy source to homes.

The project, which will cost between 30 million and 60 million US dollars, will start soon after payment of compensation to Likongo residents, who have been requested to vacate the area to pave way for the project”, he said.

Dr Mataragio added that the country will benefit tremendously from the project when export of natural gas commences. He further noted that about 37 institutions have been connected to the natural gas distribution system in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Daily News reports.
