Burkina Faso’s ministries of Digital Transition and Health signed a partnership agreement on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, to integrate artificial intelligence tools into the national healthcare system. The initiative aims to modernize care management, strengthen diagnostic capacity, and improve overall sector performance.
“With AI, we can analyze data and generate new insights to support decision-making in healthcare, deliver more accurate diagnoses, and strengthen health surveillance to anticipate potential epidemics,” said Aminata Zerbo/Sabané, Minister of Digital Transition, Posts, and Electronic Communications.
Under the agreement, the government plans to establish a National Health Intelligence Center to process health data and support decision-making and planning. AI applications will include medical imaging analysis, epidemic forecasting, and resource management optimization. The Digital Transition Ministry will provide the technological expertise, while the Health Ministry will supply medical data and sector knowledge.
The initiative addresses longstanding structural challenges, including shortages of medical staff, unequal access to care, and limited connectivity in rural areas. By leveraging digital tools, the Burkinabè government seeks to bring healthcare services closer to communities and streamline hospital operations.
