• GCTU asks government support to develop digital infrastructure and cyber lab.
• University runs a specialized lab with 92 computers and smart boards for training.
• Initiative aligns with Ghana’s digital strategy to boost skills and innovation.
The Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has called on the government for support to strengthen its digital infrastructure and cybersecurity lab.
A delegation from the institution met this week with Mohammed Adams Sukparu, Deputy Minister of Communication, Digital Technologies, and Innovation, to request state backing.
Vice Chancellor Professor Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwah said GCTU is positioning itself as a leading ICT training hub in West Africa. He highlighted the university’s state-of-the-art lab, which is equipped with 92 specialized computers and smart boards, designed to train entrepreneurs in critical ICT skills.
The initiative aligns with Ghana’s national digital strategy, which seeks to build local expertise in areas such as cybersecurity and technological innovation. Additional government support, university leaders argue, could help bridge the country’s digital skills gap, enhance resilience against rising cyber threats, and strengthen Ghana’s role as a regional technology hub.
