MTN Group said on October 31 it had completed the migration of its Enterprise Value Analytics (EVA) platform to Microsoft Azure’s cloud infrastructure. The new EVA 3.0 system, deployed in South Africa, is described by the company as “now the largest Telco cloud implementation in the Middle East and Africa.”
Built on Azure Databricks and secured with Microsoft Defender, EVA 3.0 now processes more than 22 billion records per day, supports over 800 analytical workflows, and integrates about 1,700 data streams. MTN said the new architecture enables greater agility in data analysis, faster incident response, and more personalized customer services.
“With EVA 3.0, we’re expanding those capabilities – analysing information more quickly, applying intelligence more effectively, and safeguarding it through advanced cloud security,” said Nikos Angelopoulos, MTN Group’s Chief Information Officer. “Working with Microsoft, we’ve built a resilient platform that supports responsible AI and ensures we continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
The migration forms part of MTN’s strategic partnership with Microsoft, signed in 2022, and is being implemented through the company’s internal Project Nephos and its Cloud Centre of Excellence. MTN said that more than 1,350 Azure certifications were awarded to its employees in 2025, underscoring its investment in skills development.
The South Africa deployment serves as a model for other MTN markets across the continent. The company said the initiative aims not only to strengthen operational performance but also to position MTN as a leading technology-driven enterprise in Africa.
