  • Guinea inaugurated a Tier 3-certified national data center in Conakry on Sept 4.

  • The facility is designed to secure national data and strengthen digital sovereignty.

  • UN index shows Guinea’s e-government score rose to 0.4006 in 2024 from 0.2955 in 2022.

The Guinean government has inaugurated a national data center in Conakry, marking a major step in the country’s digital transformation drive. The facility, launched on Thursday, September 4, is intended to host national data and reinforce digital sovereignty, officials said.

While technical details have not yet been disclosed, the center is certified Tier 3 by the Uptime Institute, a standard that guarantees redundancy and high availability. Tier 3 certification means multiple power and cooling circuits, with annual downtime limited to about 1.6 hours.

During a site visit, the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy said the center aligns with the country’s modernization goals. It is expected to provide secure data hosting and better control over national information management.

The initiative supports Guinea’s broader push for digital transformation, aimed at modernizing public services, strengthening infrastructure, and building an inclusive digital ecosystem.

According to the United Nations “E-Government Survey 2024: Accelerating Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development,” Guinea scored 0.4006 out of 1 on the e-government development index (EGDI), ranking 29th in Africa. This marks an improvement from 0.2955 in 2022.
