Paratus launches 2,000 km Mombasa-Goma fiber link
Corridor connects landlocked markets to submarine cables
Project supports rising East Africa digital connectivity demand
Pan-African telecommunications provider Paratus Group announced on Monday the launch of a new terrestrial fiber-optic link connecting Mombasa, Kenya, to Goma in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The network, known as the G2M Corridor (Goma-to-Mombasa), also runs through Nairobi, Kampala and Kigali, expanding the group’s footprint in East Africa.
The link spans approximately 2,000 km and is already operational, serving its first operator and enterprise customers. It connects landlocked Central African markets to international bandwidth available in Mombasa via submarine cables. The company says the route offers a more resilient, low-latency terrestrial alternative.
“Our strategy has always been about connecting the dots across Africa with quality, contiguous infrastructure. [...] By creating a protected route from the coast all the way into Goma, we’re giving operators and enterprises direct, reliable access to global capacity,” said Martin Cox, chief commercial officer of Paratus Group.
The project is part of a broader drive to expand terrestrial fiber networks across Africa, seen as critical to the continent’s digital transformation. The launch marks a strategic milestone in the company’s regional expansion.
Paratus, already present in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, is expanding its footprint in East Africa, where demand for connectivity is rising on the back of growth in fintech, digital services, e-commerce and cloud computing.
