Nigeria’s federal government launched the “1Gov Enterprise Content Management” platform on Monday, November 10. The system is intended to digitize document handling and automate internal workflows across the civil service.
The project is led by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and state-owned Galaxy Backbone Limited. Authorities say it is intended to make public administration more efficient and support the country’s aim of maintaining control over its digital infrastructure.
Head of the Civil Service Didi Esther Walson-Jack said the rollout marks a major shift for government operations and fits within the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, which promotes a data-driven public sector.
The new system introduces automated workflows, centralized document management, and electronic signatures. It replaces physical files with a secure digital platform hosted on the 1Gov Cloud, Nigeria’s state-managed infrastructure. Officials said more than 59,000 government email accounts have already been created to support the transition.
Galaxy Backbone said the platform brings the government closer to its target of eliminating paper-based processes by the end of 2025. The system is expected to help centralize and secure official records, streamline administrative tasks, and reduce dependence on printed documents.
Nigeria ranked 144th out of 193 countries on the United Nations e-government development index, with a score of 0.4815.
