Guinean authorities concluded on October 17 the National Workshop for the Assessment of the Artificial Intelligence Landscape (AILA). Organized with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the exercise reflects the country’s determination to integrate artificial intelligence into its digital transformation strategy.
Discussions highlighted both the strengths and weaknesses of Guinea’s digital ecosystem and led to recommendations for addressing identified gaps. Key proposals include the development of a national AI strategy grounded in ethics and sustainability, the establishment of a clear legal and regulatory framework, the strengthening of local skills and digital infrastructure, and the promotion of innovation and citizen participation.
According to Rose Pola Pricemou, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and the Digital Economy, “Artificial intelligence must serve as a tool for human development, digital sovereignty, and collective progress.”
A ranking published in April 2025 by digital transformation consultancy Qhala and the African AI research platform Qubit Hub placed Guinea 49th in Africa on the AI Talent Readiness Index for Africa 2025, with a score of 9.65 out of 100. The country ranks ahead of Somalia (8.95) but behind Eritrea (10.45).
The index is based on 20 indicators, including the number of web developers per million inhabitants, the share of higher education institutions offering AI and machine learning (ML) training, the percentage of university graduates in the total workforce, and internet penetration rates.
