Yango pledges compliance with Namibia’s tighter e-hailing regulations
Company to ensure drivers obtain permits, strengthen verification systems
Move aligns with government push to formalise digital transport sector
Ride-hailing platform Yango said on Friday it would comply with requirements set by Namibian authorities as the government moves to tighten oversight of digital transport services.
The pledge follows government warnings as authorities push to formalise a rapidly expanding sector.
“We have heard the concerns raised regarding public passenger permits. Yango supports the formalisation of the e-hailing sector and we are actively working with our independent fleet partners to ensure compliance with rules set by the transport ministry,” said Zanyiwe Asare, Yango’s head of public affairs for Africa.
To meet those requirements, the company said it plans to step up cooperation with local partners, including fleet operators and drivers, to ensure they obtain the necessary licences. The process also includes improving verification checks to prevent misuse, such as unregistered drivers using other people’s accounts. Yango added that it is continuing talks with authorities to align its business model with existing rules.
The compliance push reflects broader efforts by Namibian authorities to regulate the e-hailing sector, whose rapid growth has often outpaced existing frameworks. For digital platforms, the challenge is now to balance innovation with compliance with local laws.
