The Malian government has launched CPIMS+/Primero, a digital system designed by UNICEF to manage child protection cases across the country. The official announcement came on June 22, following a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2025 between the Ministry for the Promotion of Women, Children, and Family and several technical partners, including UNICEF.
Developed by UNICEF with support from global partners, CPIMS+/Primero, short for Child Protection Information Management System Plus, centralizes, secures, and coordinates data on children facing abuse, neglect, or violence. Each child registered in the system receives a secure digital file, accessible only to authorized professionals throughout the case management process.
The government adopted the platform to modernize Mali’s child protection services, which face challenges linked to insecurity, economic hardship, and weak social systems. Authorities aim to strengthen coordination among stakeholders, reduce duplication of efforts, and ensure traceable, accountable interventions.
Mali follows Benin, which implemented the system in February 2025, as part of a broader regional initiative to use digital tools to safeguard children’s rights. Officials believe the platform will also support evidence-based policymaking through accurate, reliable data.
