The Liberian Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications said last week it had welcomed a delegation from the World Bank Group for talks on the country’s digital transformation.
The meeting reviewed ongoing initiatives to support Liberia’s digital transition, with discussions focusing on expanding connectivity, modernizing telecommunications infrastructure, and promoting more inclusive digital growth. World Bank representatives praised reforms implemented under the ministry’s leadership, citing in particular the strategic priorities set out in recent sector plans, including the Liberia Telecommunications Authority’s five-year strategic plan for 2025-2029.
The reforms aim to narrow gaps in access to digital services, improve infrastructure quality, and align telecommunications policy with national development priorities. The sector is seen as a key driver of economic activity, access to public services, and social inclusion, particularly in underserved areas.
The meeting forms part of broader international support for developing countries seeking to accelerate digital transition and strengthen the resilience of their communications systems. It also extends ongoing dialogue between the two sides, underlining the importance placed on digital technology in Liberia’s development agenda. No new funding or specific projects were announced following the talks.
