Nigeria’s Anambra state has launched SmartGov, a digital platform designed to modernize access to public services and improve administrative efficiency. The initiative is part of the state government’s broader digital transformation strategy, which aims to simplify administrative procedures, strengthen transparency, and enhance service delivery for citizens and businesses.
Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, chief executive officer of the Anambra State ICT Agency, said SmartGov goes beyond a simple directory of services and functions as an intelligent gateway that makes interactions with government simple, fast, and reliable, adding that integrating AI into everyday public services is making governance in Anambra state more transparent, accessible, and efficient for Ndi Anambra.
In practical terms, SmartGov allows users to access more than 30 public services online, covering administrative procedures, tax and fee payments, and selected interactions with state government agencies. The platform brings these services together through a single digital window, reducing the need for physical visits and shortening processing times.
The solution incorporates AI-based features designed to automate certain procedures, guide users through administrative processes, and improve the management of service requests. According to Anambra state authorities, the goal is to make public administration more accessible and responsive, in line with the needs of a rapidly growing and urbanizing population.
Beyond improving the user experience, SmartGov is also intended to strengthen public governance. The platform enhances traceability of requests, enables more structured data collection, and helps optimize internal administrative processes. These elements are expected to reduce informal practices, improve public revenue mobilization, and support data-driven decision-making.
