Dahirou Thiam, head of Senegal’s Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority (ARTP), hosted ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin in Dakar last week on an official visit.
Talks centered on key priorities for Senegal’s digital sector, including improving connectivity, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. They also discussed ITU initiatives such as Girls in ICT Day, which the U.N. agency supports in several African countries. The ITU plans to expand its presence in Senegal, according to a statement.
The visit is part of efforts to build new partnerships and secure funding for projects driving Senegal’s digital transformation. Under its New Technological Deal initiative, Senegal aims to raise 1.105 trillion CFA francs ($1.83 billion) to become a leading tech hub by 2034.
