Somali Minister of Communications and Technology, Mohamed Adan Moalim Ali, met with the country’s leading telecommunications executives on Sunday, Oct. 26, to review the sector's performance and discuss measures to enhance the quality of services for consumers.

"We are working tirelessly as a government to provide digital services that simplify the lives of our citizens, while involving local professionals and experts," the minister said.

The initiative comes as Somalia seeks to upgrade its digital infrastructure and leverage the ongoing global digital revolution to stimulate economic growth, social inclusion, and access to online services.

According to 2023 data from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) DataHub platform, Somalia’s territory has 2G coverage at 90%, 3G at 80%, 4G at 50%, and 5G at 10%.

As of early 2025, the country’s internet penetration rate stood at 55.2%, according to DataReportal, with the number of active SIM cards recorded at 11.3 million.
