The Niger Digital Development Agency (ADN) and Dutch NGO SNV-Niger have launched Agrigarbal, a unified digital platform for the agricultural sector. Presented on Friday, September 26, in Niamey, the platform brings together the functions of two existing tools: AgriShop, which specializes in agricultural product sales, and GarbalKassoua, focused on providing information to herders and agropastoralists.
Agrigarbal offers three main services: updated market information (covering livestock, farm inputs, and food products), integrated financial services through AgrigarbalCash, and specialized technical advice to improve productivity and resilience. By centralizing these tools, the platform aims to simplify daily operations for producers and traders, who often face scattered digital services and unreliable data.
Before the merger, AgriShop had more than 58,500 users, including 44% women, with nearly 900 active merchants and more than 3,400 listed products. GarbalKassoua, launched under the Dutch-funded Digital Innovations for Agropastoralists project, provided pastoralists with information on prices and resource availability. Combining the two systems is expected to strengthen their impact and reach.
Initially deployed in five regions, Agrigarbal is designed for nationwide expansion, with the potential to inspire neighboring countries facing similar challenges. The initiative is part of Niger’s agricultural digitalization strategy, where centralizing data and services is seen as a key driver of transformation.
